LEVEL 1: 200 HOUR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING COURSES

Important Note: This TTC is for MEN and WOMEN alike. “Yoga” was created by men for men, and not just for women. So guys, come numerous!

1. Techniques & Practice: asanas, pranayamas, kriyas, chanting, mantra, meditation, and other traditional yoga techniques. These hours are a mix between (1) analytical training in how to teach and practice the techniques, and (2) guided practice of the techniques themselves......115 hours
2. Teaching methodology: principles of demonstration, observation, assisting/correcting, instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a teacher, and the student's process of learning, and business aspects of teaching yoga......25 hours
3. Anatomy & Physiology. Includes both “Western” Human Physical Anatomy and Physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.) and “yogic” Anatomy (cakras, nadis, etc.). Basic anatomy and physiology needed to understand yoga (benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns, etc.). The study then is about 1. enhancing your practice; 2. Improve your own ability to increase your strength, flexibility, endurance; 3. Prevention of injuries (my priority!); 4. And use yoga to recover from various conditions (though yoga therapy is taught in the 300 hour TTC); Introduction to Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, and shiatsu as related to yoga.......20 hours
4. Yoga Philosophy, lifestyle, & ethics for yoga teachers. Includes the study of Yoga philosophy (Scriptures: Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, etc.), yoga lifestyle and ethics for yoga teachers: what is “living the life of a Yogi”?......30 hours
5. Practicum: practice teaching, receiving feedback, observing others teaching and teaching, giving feedback. Also includes assisting students while someone else is teaching......10
TOTAL....................................200 hours

Note: this schedule can vary slightly according to the students’ needs

Q: Language?
There will be a translator, but because the teacher will teach in ENGLISH, you will also be able to learn how to teach an asana (posture)-class in ENGLISH (especially for those who work in Resorts & Spas).

Q: Can I join the TTC if I am a first-timer?
A: Here I quote the testimony of one of the first timers who joined one of my TTCs. “You are my first and great teacher. I've learnt a lot from this course, not only yoga but also the way to face challenges. It's my luck to decide to take this course. (Send my love to your cats.)” TNT. (July 2010, Hanoi, Vietnam) I can’t say, ‘she improved’ because she started from the very beginning. She finished the TTC as an ‘advanced’ practitioner, this mean she developed awareness of her body and how it functions.

Q: Can I join the TTC if I am a beginner?
A: If I accept first-timers in my 200-hour TTCs, of course I accept beginners.

Q: what style of yogasana do you teach?
A: I usually teach VINYASA YOGA style, but I don’t hesitate to bring other techniques from other traditions if these prove to enhance our practice. I want to remain totally free from any ‘system’ even from Vinyasa method itself, which I consider the best and the most open of all that has been developed in the field of yogasana.

Q: What if I don't want to become a yoga-teacher?
A: Actually, I think that less than 20% of the students attending a TTC don’t want to become yoga teachers, at least now. But a TTC is certainly the only way to understand what we are doing on a yoga mat, to understand that yogasanas are only the visible part of a vast spiritual path. There is much more to Yoga than just asanas. And you may, one day, teach.

Q: Can I attend the course if I am pregnant, if I have a health issue
A: First of all, a 200-hour TTC has some 65 hours of asanas only. The rest is pranayama, meditation, medical anatomy with heavy emphasis on prevention of injuries, yogic anatomy, teaching methodology, philosophy… There is much more to a course than just yogasana. Moreover, most asanas have variations ―and it’s part of the programme to study them― to suit all kinds of practitioners.

Q: What if I miss some hours in the TTC?
A: Because Yoga Alliance allows the schools not to teach with physical presence for 10% of the TTC duration (20 hours), I thus allow (but not encourage) students to be absent for a maximum of 20 hours, for valid reasons of course. But if you happen to be absent for over 20 hours, I will find a way for you to catch up so that sooner or later, through homeworks for instance, you can prove that you have indeed caught up. Then I will send you the certificate (usually by post office and also scanned certificate by email).

Q: What if I get sick during the TTC?
A: If you get sick, whenever it is possible, better come and watch rather than stay home, if possible. You can also learn a lot by watching your co-students.

Q: Which books do you recommend for the TTC?
A: only four books are required for the TTC. Then I’ll give you a long list of books to further your knowledge in Yoga. These 4 books are:
• Light on Yoga by B.K.S. Iyengar ：瑜伽之光
• The Yoga Sūtra of Patañjali, in your own language, or preferably in English (a good translation is by Georg Feuerstein). 巴坦加里的瑜伽经
• The Bhagavad Gita, a good translation is by Ecknath Easwaran; also by W.J. Johnson (Oxford World’s Classics) (please NOT the translation by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada). 薄伽梵歌 中國瑜珈出版社, 台湾发行繁体字版本,
• Anatomy book: any anatomy book with clear anatomy plates in colour. I can recommend “Know Your Body. The Atlas of Anatomy” by Trevon Weston. 大英人体自查彩色图谱团结出版社 in Chinese

For more information, two websites www.yogayantra.com and http://yogayantra.yolasite.com

EXAMPLE OF DAILY SCHEDULE FOR 200 AND 300-HOUR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING COURSES

Supposing we start at 8.oo am (it’s your choice whether we start at 7.oo or 8.ooam)
8.oo-9.15, pranayama-kriyas-meditation
9.15-11.oo, asanas
break for lunch here
12.oo-3.oo pm, theory: philosophy, anatomy, teaching methodology
break, one hour
4.oo-6.oo pm, asanas

Note: the evening class can change especially when students feel tired, then instead of asanas we would have a Q&A on topics of your choice. Teaching methodology: principles of demonstration, observation, assisting/correcting, instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a teacher, and the student's process of learning, and business aspects of teaching yoga......35 hours
3 A. Anatomy & Physiology. Normally we’ve studied yogic anatomy (cakras, nadis, kundalini...) in the 200-hour TTC, but we’ll review in particular for those who do not have a 200-hour TTC from Yogayantra but from another school, and may not have studied this topic in-depth. Then we deepen “Western” Human Physical Anatomy and Physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.) applied to the practice of yoga and asana as it is needed to understand how the body works and practice SAFELY (benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns, etc.). The study then is about 1. enhancing your practice; 2. Improve your own ability to increase your strength, flexibility, endurance; 3. Prevention of injuries (my priority!); 4. Revisions of Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, and shiatsu as related to yoga...... 20 hours
3 B. Practicum: practice teaching, receiving feedback, observing others teaching and teaching, giving feedback. Also includes assisting students while someone else is teaching......40 hours
6. Nutrition and healing with whole foods. This includes the blending of East Asian traditions and modern Western nutrition with Traditional Chinese Medicine knowledge......30 hours
TOTAL..................................300 hours

Note: this schedule will vary according to the students’ needs. Each TTC is different because the students are different. The content is the same but the emphasis on one topic or the other will depend on them.

Q: Can I join the 300 hour TTC if I am a first-timer?
A: Normally you cannot. You must have a 200-hour teacher training course, from Yogayantra or from any other school, whatever their tradition. In case this would be your first course, Yoga Alliance will register it as a 200-hour TTC (not as a 300-hour one).

Q: what style of yogasana do you teach?
A: I usually teach VINYASA YOGA style, but I don’t hesitate to bring other techniques from other traditions if these prove to enhance our practice (Pilates for instance). I want to remain totally free from any ‘system’ even from Vinyasa method itself, though I consider it the best and the most open of all that has been developed in the field of yogasana.

Q: What if I don't want to become a yoga-teacher?
A: Actually, I think that only 50% of the students attending a TTC want to become yoga teachers.

A: A 300-hour TTC has some 90 hours of asanas only. The rest is pranayama, meditation, anatomy, yoga therapy, teaching methodology, philosophy, nutrition, and practicum. There is much more to a course than just yogasana. Moreover, most asanas have variations ―and it’s part of the programme to study them― to suit all kinds of practitioners. But this is your choice.

Q: What if I miss some hours in the TTC?
A: Because Yoga Alliance allows the schools not to teach with physical presence for 10% of the TTC duration (30 hours in a 300 hour TTC), I thus allow (but not encourage) students to be absent for a maximum of 30 hours, for valid reasons of course. But if you happen to be absent for over 30 hours, I will find a way for you to catch up so that sooner or later, through homework for instance, you can prove that you have indeed caught up. Then I will send you the certificate (usually by post office and also scanned certificate by email).

Q: What if I get sick during the TTC?
A: If you get sick, whenever it is possible, better come and watch rather than stay home, if possible. Iyengar ：瑜伽之光
• Tantra, The Path of Ecstasy by Georg Feuerstein (for Hindu Tantra only), but later I will recommend you read others books (see my “Resources & Bibliography” document)
• Vedanta, Heart of Hinduism by Hans Torwesten
• Applied Anatomy and Physiology of hatha yoga by Simon Borg-Olivier (see amazon)
• Anatomy book: any anatomy book with clear anatomy plates in colour. I can recommend “Know Your Body. The Atlas of Anatomy” by Trevon Weston. 大英人体自查彩色图谱团结出版社 in Chinese

Example of daily schedule for 200 and 300-hour yoga teacher training courses
If we start at 8.oo am

     8.oo-9.15 pranayama, kriya
     9.15-11.oo asanas
     11.oo-12.oo lunch
     12.oo-3.oo theory
     3.oo-4.oo break
4.oo-6.oo asana, how the body works, a more detailed practice

Note: the evening class can change especially when students feel tired, then instead of asanas we would have a Q&A on topics of your choice. Then I’ll give you a long list of books to further your knowledge in Yoga.
• Light on Yoga by B.K.S. Iyengar ：瑜伽之光
You can add these three, but actually I recommend you read them after the TTC.
• The Yoga Sūtra of Patañjali, in your own language, or preferably in English (a good translation is by Shyam Ranganathan). 巴坦加里的瑜伽经
• The Bhagavad Gita, a good translation is by Ecknath Easwaran and also by W.J.
At the end of the TTC, I’ll give you a (long) list of ‘Resources and bibliography’ for your further studies.

Most students who attend the level 2 want to teach yoga, though not always.
When we start a 300 hour TTC, i must take into account the fact that some students come from my school and others from other schools. So I spend the first "week"(1) reviewing foundations of the 200 hour TTC: especially in anatomy (prevention of injuries) and philosophy (history of the development of Yoga), also in teaching methodology.
The goal is to harmonize the various levels of the students to have a homogeneous, consistent , level.
This is at the end of such a week that, in Rishikesh, a student came to me and said, “thank you”. I said, “why?” She replied, “because in these 5 days, I’ve learned more than in the whole 200-hour TTC I attended.” (it was in Koh Samui).
So then, on the 2nd “week”, we start deeper anatomy, always related to yoga. I do not teach general anatomy, I am only concerned in anatomy applied to asanas and pranayama: this is a vast field of studies, and since even a 300 hour TTC is insufficient to cover the topic, I give many documents for the students to further their studies when the TTC is over.
Part of anatomy is ‘nutrition applied to the practice of asanas and pranayama’, not general nutrition (that you can find anywhere, just buy a book).
It’s the same for philosophy: after we see the foundations of the broad movement that lead to the formation of Yoga, I go and study two other huge parts of Indian thought (Vedanta, Tantra). Then we study the history of the contemporary yoga —fascinating topic.
Yoga therapy belongs to both: practice and anatomy. We cover some precise fields and I try to get students to a broader understanding, so that they can help anyone with any condition.
Teaching methodology (TM) covers what was briefly mentioned in the 200 hour TTC, and we go much deeper. There is a lot of ajustments too. I also do my best to make people develop their sense of observation and connect TM to other sciences such as Zen Shiatsu or TCM.
Practicum becomes much more important than in the Level 1.
Well, it’s all very intense.

This level 2 should be much more interactive than the first part. Students are encouraged to animate by asking questions, giving their opinion, etc. especially in the field of philosophy where you should already have some experience.

For both levels, we study from 7 am to 10 am (or 8am-11am); brunch from 10 am to 11 am (or 11am-12 noon). We resume from 11 am to 2 pm (or 12pm-3pm) then we have a tea break from 2 to 3 pm (or 3pm-4pm). We finish at 5 pm (or 6pm). The rhythm is five days on – 1 day off (you can ask for the precise calendar for each such TTC).
              Friendly yours

Dominique is the director of YOGAYANTRA school of yoga, she is a 500 E-RYT (experienced registered yoga teacher). This TTC led by Dominique is an advanced studies program. It meets Yoga Alliance’s standards: Their logo will appear on your certificate. YOGAYANTRA is a 500RYS (registered yoga school)
Even if you are not planning to become a yoga-teacher, you are most welcome to join this program fully or partially, as you will deepen your knowledge and understanding of this extraordinary discipline, far beyond what is taught in ordinary classes. In any case, you will be ready to teach professional level yoga classes upon completion of this program, or just go deeper in your own practice of yoga! We will study prevention of injuries as an important part of this TTC.
The chosen style Vinyasa style as taught by Sri Krishnamacharya, with the accuracy of "Iyengar" style. You will develop a greater awareness and intelligence through this practice, and learn modifications for your own practice and teaching. The Vinyasa style is not a system (as I explain on this website). It is by far the best way to develop your awareness, strength and flexibility through the practice of what is called postures (asana).
This course allows the student to discover the essence of Yoga and how awareness can develop beyond the technical aspect of asanas (postures) and pranayama. We share the 200 hours between Techniques (asanas, pranayama, kriyas, meditation); Anatomy; Philosophy of Yoga; Teaching methodology; Practicum (students teach classes). On Yogayantra’s website, you will find more details on the content of 200 hour TTCs.
Dominique has been on this planet for 60 years, and from teenage, started being interested in everything. She doesn’t make a difference between ‘work’ and ‘activity’. That’s why she can teach all branches of yoga: physical practice; philosophy; anatomy; teaching methodology and more.

点击下载此文件

点击下载此文件

YOGAYANTRA is a 500RYS (registered yoga school) http://www.yogayantra.com, http://yogayantra.yolasite.com

The chosen style Vinyasa style as taught by Sri Krishnamacharya, with any element from any other school (Iyengar, etc.) that I find profitable for our physical and spiritual development. You will gain a greater awareness and intelligence through this practice, as well as learn modifications for your own practice and teaching.

Dominique has been on this planet for 60 years, and from teenage, has been interested in everything. She doesn’t make a difference between ‘work’ and ‘activity’, which explains why she can teach all aspects of yoga.
NB: temporary information. Will be updated as I get more info from CITYGYM in Cebu
点击下载此文件

To join my 200 hour TTCs you don't need any special preparation. There is no entrance-examination or any special requirement.
BEGINNERS ARE WELCOME IN MY 200-HOUR TTCs.

My TTCs are deep and constructive, and when the TTC is over, I also give guidance for ongoing studies, because yoga is not something you can learn in 200 hours.

Although the programme seems to be the same for everyone, you will quickly notice that I will know each of you individually. Since I want my TTC students to be able to teach individually, I also teach individually. Each posture can be done differently, with or without props, at different levels. You will also learn, in one of our Teaching Methodology class, to observe and “know” your student after the first “surya namaskar”. I teach individually, that is, in a class of 20 students, I teach 20 private classes.

A TTC is just opening the door to the infinite world of Yoga, and I help students as I would have liked to have been helped myself: Although I have taken many TTCs/workshops, I never got any real guidance, neither in the field of philosophy, or in anatomy or in teaching methodology. That’s why in my TTCs I do my best to provide this guidance, and after a TTC with me, you can always ask me questions through email. I always answer.
Also, I am constantly studying and practicing, as I make no difference between "working", "having activity", and "studying".

To join my 300 hour TTCs though, you must have a 200-hour TTC certification already, from Yogayantra or from any other school, and whatever the style.

On Yogayantra's facebook account, there are many photos.
